據本報所得資料，校方建議增加宿費兩成以累積維修儲備，以滿足大學教育資助委員會（教資會）的指引。
去年十一月舍堂委員會會議上，財務及企業部指按教資會所提出的指引，教資會資源與非教資會資源應分開處理，因此一直由大學資助用作舍堂維修及更新的開支亦應自資處理。高級管理層原則上已同意以上安排。
財務及企業處推算，為建立更新及週期性維修的儲備，宿費需每日增加約8至10元。另外，宿費亦需再增加百分之四（約2元）以彌補通脹及工資增長，往後每年亦主要按此兩項數據調整。管理層就此邀請舍堂委員會及學生事務委員會考慮。副校長（行政）亦會成立小組就未來宿費事務提出意見。
按現時舍堂宿費50元一日計算（聖約翰學院及利瑪竇宿舍除外），財務及企業部提出所需之增幅高達百分之二十至百分之二十四，每學年宿費將由13900元增至16680元至17238元，與龍華街住宿學院雙人房一年18070元的差距大幅收窄。
去屆學生會會長黃程鋒接受本報查詢時，表示會議上確有討論加價一事，事後亦有邀請當時各舍堂學生會主席商討，惟最終未有成事。
