日前有傳媒報道民主牆上張貼了「慶祝美軍炮打中國駐南大使館20周年」的標語。據報道指，有同學曾於5月7日留意到該標語，惟其後標語已迅速遭移除。報道又指有關標語在港大內地生群組中引起熱烈討論。
校方今日（11日）就民主牆上的標語向大學成員發信。校長張翔及管理層強烈譴責發布仇恨言論的行為，並向被冒犯的人士致歉。張又指已採取行動防止事件再次發生。
民主牆由學生會管理，開放予任何人士使用。署理會長黃程鋒表示，暫未知悉校方就防止事件再次發生有任何實質行動。
民主牆使用守則訂明張貼內容不得涉及人身攻擊、揭露個人私生活、與事實不符或誹謗、淫穢字眼，仇恨言論未有列入規管範圍。不過，守則同時訂明若任何人士如對民主牆上的張貼品有任何不滿，可向仲裁委員會主席投訴。仲裁委員會主席可授權行政秘書暫時移除有關張貼品，直至仲裁結束。
