校方就通識教育部（GE）併入學生資源及發展中心（CEDARS）一事於是日下午舉行學生論壇，有約四五十名同學出席。何立仁及梁若芊在會議上先後簡介合併的背景及方案，何又稱合併計劃並非勢在必行。出席會議的同學表示，論壇未能充分解釋合併之理由。

副校長（教與學）兼GE總監何立仁、學生事務長梁若芊博士GE助理總監黃志淙博士有出席是次論壇。會上，何立仁及梁若芊先後簡介合併的背景及方案。何表示認同GE的貢獻，惟指要思考GE如何在體制上切合港大。何解釋指，在前學生事務長周偉立離任後，港大中央管理小組認為要其時署理學生事務長梁若芊兼任GE總監做法「對其不公平」，故委任何立仁為GE總監。但何認為GE應有一個更有架構的管理模式。至今年一月，梁若芊正式成為學生事務長，何指GE向梁負責更理想，故出現合拼建議。

梁指於GE拼入CEDARS後，將維持一貫運作，至八月一日前仍在GE職員名單上的職員將全數留任，原有在CEDARS内、負責學生發展課程的部門則將主要舉辦短期課程及義工訓練。

有同學質疑為何不能維持GE原來的獨立架構，何立仁稱合併計劃只是其中一項建議，並非勢在必行，惟在同學追問下，梁表示在此論壇前從未有討論過如周偉立般兼任GE總監，需要時間考慮有關建議。有同學問到論壇後有甚麼途徑可讓同學繼續就此提出意見、參與決定，何立仁反而就此詢問在場的學生會會長黃政鍀。黃回應指可透過不同渠道收集同學意見，惟收集意見需時，現有時間表實在過於倉促，而校方亦應公開更多資料讓同學了解事件。梁回應指有關時間表只供參考，GE及CEDARS八月一日不一定合併。何於結語中又指，希望GE的活動受眾能更廣泛，參與人數能有所增加。

有出席會議的同學表示，論壇未能充分解釋合併之理由，認為假如GE併入CEDARS後依然維持一貫運作，則看不到合併的需要。
