近日利希慎堂爆出連串醜聞，先是塗污弔唁冊，後有懷疑非禮案。面對這一連串醜聞，舍堂內外的意見卻似乎有天淵之別。就在舍堂外的各個傳媒、會員連番追擊、要求充分交代的時候，不少同學卻似乎選擇沉默、對事件不發一言。有的私下為利希慎堂抱不平，覺得醜聞曝光是被有心人設局陷害；有的則為自己感到委屈，不解為何自己為舍堂出心出力，成就一件件好人好事，外人卻只看到舍堂壞的一面，要將舍堂界視為敗德的一群。
「好人好事」不能成擋箭牌
每逢有舍堂出事，總有不少熱心舍堂的同學以「好人好事論」作擋箭牌，抱怨大眾對舍堂的批評不公。他們的立論大都強調除了少數烏合之眾外，熱心公益、關心社會的同學在做好事，如環島單車、義工服務、時事文宣等，只是外人都看不到或是不願看到。
的確，舍堂在校內校外均有所貢獻。大學堂承傳薄扶林村舞火龍傳統、利瑪竇宿舍支援少數族裔社群，還有多年來的「環島單車」、「環島跑」的籌款活動。不過，有值得讚譽之處並不代表舍堂就是完美無瑕，不少舍堂醜聞同樣源自積弊多年的舍堂「傳統」，上年的滴蠟「惡作劇」（或曰欺凌）正是一例。若只提多年來的風光事蹟而避談同樣延續多年的陋習，正正是避重就輕的表現。
而且，即使說舍堂同學關心社會、熱衷公益，也不代表其他同學全無貢獻。先不要提學社聯會內不少屬會就是以服務社會而立，不少院會系會同樣未有缺席－文宣、講座、論壇從未止息。假若將關心社會、熱衷公益說成是舍堂的標記，絕對有欠公允；若以這此來證明舍堂宿生比其他學生更優越，或視之為擋箭牌，更是詒笑大方。
沉默即幫兇 害己害人
港大學生一向以批判高牆、挑戰權威為已任，為眾人作表率自居。但奇怪的是，當有舍堂爆出醜聞的時候，不少同學卻一片噤聲，平日所謂「勇敢發聲」、「沉默即幫兇」頓時皆成空話。上次緊急評議會會議，除了即將卸任的偉倫堂代表提出撤回去年利希慎堂所提交的迎新報告外，其餘一眾舍堂代表，一如平常會議般未有就事件發言，不知道是對其他代表的發言甚感認同，無需拾人牙慧；或是礙於情面關係，少講少錯了。然而不論是怕多口說錯話，還是不忍心再出聲批評，一眾舍堂同學不挺身而出，與陋習歪風割席，難免被大眾視為雙重標準、包庇同黨。
為舍堂未來的發展和存續，為先輩積累下來的名聲與榮譽，舍堂一眾同學更應嚴以律己，至少出事時則應勇於面對批評。去年滴蠟事件後，涉事學院旋即懲治涉案學生，學生會亦坦承認錯、承諾絕不再犯，樹立良好榜樣。一榮俱榮，一損俱損，既然能分享堂友帶來的榮譽，亦必須承擔堂友帶來的批評。若果連公開批評那些敗壞舍堂的壞分子、與之割蓆的勇氣也欠奉，又有甚麼資格為外人的閒言閒語感到委屈？
依然故我 只會令舍堂敗亡
聽聞部分舍堂同學懷疑，近日接連被揭醜聞，定是有人設局陷害，更有可能是李國章打擊學生的部署。此說甚為可笑－－在社交網絡發達、人人一機在手的年代，壞事廣傳萬里有甚麼出奇？劣行既成，證據已留，自己隱瞞不了，反覺得遭人設計，也未免太天真太傻了吧？
很多舍堂內的人都愛說外人批評舍堂，是因為他們畏懼、不敢離開安舒區，體驗舍堂的世界、感受裡面的刻苦、努力、感情。但到過來想，不敢逃出安舒區的，會不會是舍堂自己？如林瑞麟般的遊花園的語氣敷衍評議會，如鄭若驊般靜悄悄的待醜聞過去，大家都只會越發對舍堂兩字越發失望。假若依然故我，只會令舍堂這一對港大、對香港育才樹人的組織敗亡於不斷的劣行之中。面對醜惡很難，面對自身醜惡更難。面對外人一切批評非議，捍衛舍堂，一眾舍堂同學必須由直視己非，直斥己非開始。
